The Humility and Majesty of the Son of God

“Oh Lord, our Lord how majestic is your name in all the earth!” Psalm 8:1

The greatness of the Son of God over the prophets and angels has been established. He is greater in name, role and message. He is the ruler of all things and all things are in subjection to him. Yet “for a little while he was made lower than the angels” and walked among people like the prophets.

The great and sovereign Son humbly set aside the divine right, receiving the name of Jesus indicating the fullness of his humanity and looking forward to his saving work.

During the time that he was made to be lower than the angels (Psalm 8), we do not see that all things are still in subjection to him, instead he gave himself to the work salvation. Ultimately giving his life for the purification of his people.

Then “after making purification for sins he sat down at the right hand of the majesty on high,” Because of the suffering and sacrifice of the Son of God, he was crowned with glory and honor as he tasted death for everyone. Then he took his rightful place of majesty at the right hand of God. This also re-establishes the Son of God's dominion and rule, as all things take their proper place under his feet.
