Passage: Hebrews 3:1-6
The Son of God is Greater than Moses
As we talk about the messengers and prophets of God, we must talk about Moses. Moses had the honor of being chosen by God to lead his people out of Egypt, he performed and witnessed amazing miracles and he received the Law of God. Consequently he was considered Israel's greatest prophet.
Yet, "Jesus, the apostle and high priest of our confession...has been counted worthy of more glory than Moses." Jesus is greater than Moses. He is more important and worthy of much more affection and praise. He is deserving of more honor than Moses, just like the builder of a home deserves more honor than the house itself.
For, Jesus was faithful over the house of God as the Son and heir, fulfilling his responsibility as owner and builder of the house. Moses was faithful to God as a servant, serving within the house that God had built.
The people of God are the house that Moses served and Jesus built. Jesus leads, guides and sacrifices for the people, caring for them because they are under his charge; while Moses, shared with the people the instruction of his master.
As God's people, gathered and built by God, we must place all our confidence in our builder and master.
