Passage: Hebrews 5:11-14
Training to Understand the Truth
Since some have stopped listening to the truth about Jesus, the preacher feels the need to slow down the instruction. The original readers of this letter (and any of us who have been reading it now) should learn the truth well enough to begin teaching it to others. Yet some are still in need of the "basic principles" of truth.
There is great need for training. The original readers of Hebrews needed training and so do we. Those who are unskilled in the words of righteousness can only handle slow and stead feeding of basic principles of faith. Once made strong by the easy truths of the Gospel, then they can move on to deeper, more marvelous Gospel driven thoughts.
(The Gospel of Jesus Christ. His Life, Death and Resurrection is the light and easy truth of the Christian faith, and yet also the deepest and most marvelous truths in Christianity.)
Mature doctrines of the Christian faith are sometimes hard to understand. They require a measure of trust and faith that can only be found as we steady ourselves on the gospel of Jesus.
