Remembering Sins no More

The frustration of God toward the people who were under the first covenant is well documented. The Old Testament is full of stories of Israel’s failure and God’s mercy toward them. The New Testament documents God's final act to turn their hard hearts to hearts of flesh that are sensitive to God and his promises.

In the new covenant, God declares that he will put his law “into their minds and write them on their hearts.” He is reminds them that He desires to be their God and for them to be His people. The new covenant give his people direct access to their God so that each of them will be able to “know Him.”

The final declaration of the new promise is one of eternal mercy. “I will be merciful toward their iniquities and I will remember their sins no more.” Because of Jesus, God makes a promise to forgive sin forever. Never again will he remember the sin of his people, instead He will show them unending mercy.
