The Pure Blood of the Son of God

Since the regulations of the first covenant were not able to forgive anyone from the debt of sin, God’s design required for a perfect and pure sacrifice to be made to forgive the sins of so many. All the sacrifices of the first covenant were not enough to appease the wrath of God, because the blood of bulls and goats could never be enough to fulfill the justice of God.

Jesus, the “high priest of the good things to come,” entered the truly holy places by the means of his own blood. His death was the pure and holy sacrifice that was required for the justice of God to be upheld and sin to still be forgiven, “thus securing an eternal redemption” for all those who hope in Him.

This is what makes Jesus the mediator of the new covenant. His perfect obedience in life and subsequent holy sacrifice has paved the way for a true and real relationship with God. His death was the seal of a legal arrangement between God and his people, inaugurating the will of God and forgiving the sins of many. “Indeed, under the law almost everything is purified with blood, and without the shedding of blood this is no forgiveness of sins.” So it is that Christ offered Himself, shedding his blood to purify His people, and appears continually in the “presence of God one our behalf.”
