Passage: Hebrews 10:1-18
Purity in Christ
Sin has stained and ruined all people since the fall of Adam. We stand condemned before God and worthy of nothing by His discipline, correction and punishment. To be cleared of our guilt, sin must be removed. The sacrificial system was never meant to remove sin, instead it was merely a shadow of the true sin remover.
Consequently, God took no true pleasure in sacrifices and offering of the old system nor did He desire that they continue forever. He planned to remove sin for good and purify a people for himself through the sacrifice of Jesus.
The need for offerings and sacrifices for sins ended at the death and resurrection of the Jesus. For where sin has been forgiven, there is no longer need for periodic cleansing and atonement. Cleansing, purification and atonement were completed, for all time, at the Cross.
