Endurance and Perseverance
Jesus said, “In this world, you will have trouble. (John 16:33)” Making it clear that life for a believer in Jesus is not going to be easy or simple. Most believer experience ridicule, reproach or affliction to one degree or another. A faith that looks forward a better promise and a better future allows believers to stand strong amid their suffering and joyfully accept loss. Loss in this life gives way to better possession in the next.
So, it is that believers can have compassion and love for even the worst off in their communities. We can turn from our desire to keep worldly riches and status to a display of compassion and grace.
Do not shrink back from this hope. Paul explains in 2 Corinthians 4 that our “light momentary affliction is preparing for us an eternal weight of glory beyond all comparison.” Paul is not calling suffering and affliction light, but he is saying that when compared to the glory that awaits the Christian, all burdens are light. We endure through hardship and preserver to the end because through Jesus death, we are promised a beautiful future.
