Understanding Grace

The word grace has a range of meanings. The spectrum covers a person's elegance to the a family's common dinner prayer. The Christian doctrine of grace offers the most important important definition of the word.

1. The free and unmerited favor of God as manifested in the salvation of sinners and the bestowal of blessings.

2. Receiving God's goodness, even though we were not good to Him.

How do Kids Experience Grace?

Grace is not simply a word with a nice definition, it is a touchable experience, a relational word that breaks the boundaries of description. Our kids will not understand grace if all they know of it are words on a page.

Defining grace for our children begins with infusing gracious action into our relationship with them. As we lovingly forgive their mistakes, they will experience grace. As we kindly guide them through life's problems, they will know better the grace of God. As we love them without thought of reciprocation, we will define for them the same grace that God confers.

We will help our children best understand grace by showing off the grace of God in our goodness to them.
